City of St. Petersburg Written Updates

The City of St. Pete has provided very sparse updates regarding the remediation of the toxic cyanobacteria (blue-green algae blooms) occurring since 2018 to present in Harbor Isle Lake. Many critical updates, such a system implementations, and report results, which should have warranted the notification of all residents through a U.S. mailed written notification-- were not mailed to all residents, but rather sometimes supplied to the voluntary and not-legally responsible Harbor Isle Homeowner's Association organization-- which has maintained a systematic pattern of lack of timeliness and failing to disseminate this type of information to all residents, and has overall, made little to no effort to inform residents of the ongoing lake situation and provide accurate information, bring awareness to the toxic nature of the lake due to blue-green algae, or promote the existence of these City updates and data for review. In addition, the City of St. Petersburg has never informed the neighborhood (all residents) that City updates for the project will only be posted on the homeowner's association website and that the public should visit that website for any future information from the City.

All of these City updates fail to be formatted in a typical professional manner or one that is legally accountable. The majority do not provide a signature of a City official who has written or approved this information being provided. All updates from 2019 and 2021 do not even list a city official's name who wrote the letter. These statements also fail to mention the following important items, including but not limited to, Letter Subjects, Project Numbers, Associated Costs, Contractor Names, Accurate Scheduling Dates (if any), Carbon-Copy Names, and Associated City Departments. Also, multiple City letters have omitted a dedicated named City contact, and their information (phone number/ E-Mail) for questions; prior City Staff names listed in 2019-2022, no longer work for the City as of Winter 2021 and Summer 2022.

The documents below, are in reverse-chronological order. They are dated, and the method of delivery for the public, has been described.  To view, click the icon to the left of the document, the item will open in a separate window.
